WIP WEDNESDAY

This is new to me, but I like the idea....

to share some of your WIP, so that others can see what you're up too, all in a snapshot;

A bit of hand-stitching with Leanne Beasley.... "Vignette In Stitches"

Some hand-piecing, I'm making my first hexagon quilt...

"Apples For Jam" Quilt is finally at the quilter's, and the binding is cut, ready to apply...

"Swoon" by Camille Roskelley, finished and ready to take to the quilter's...loving this one!!

And the first two blocks of The Fat Quarter Shop's, Block of the Month Quilt, made and ready for the next one... featuring the fabric, "Vintage Modern" by Bonnie and Camille.

St. Clementine...

Work on my "St. Clementine" quilt is coming along nicely... all the pieces have been cut out, now work begins on stitching it all together into the blocks.. Two of the blocks are finished...using the main fabric, in which I used to gather together all the other fabrics for the quilt.

And why did I choose the name - " St. Clementine"....oranges and lemons...the bells of St. Clements!! That's why!! And a green and navy to calm down the citrus colour way!

Sorry the photos are a little dark, but we have been having very wet gloomy days lately and it's really hard to get a good shot!! But I think you get the idea!!

Welcome to My New Look....

Hey Everyone... thank you, if you are still following after I have had a change in name and in look....I thought that in 2012, I needed to change...and to freshen up my page!!!

I'm not perfect when it comes to blogs, but I love the interaction from bloggers and love the inspiration they provide.

In late 2011, my daughter and I embarked on our own design label - "Lyrebird and Lamb", a line of homecraft that uses natural fabrics, like linen and cotton, and by making funky homewares and products....

Here is a selection of some...

And "Lyrebird and Lamb Quilt Designs" is my journey, discovering and making funky quilts, loving fabrics, and just being creative!!

So join me, tag me, follow me, and see what I get up too....I hope I inspire you to be passionate about your craft!!

Summer Days...

Thinking I would really love to make a quilt using these fabrics that I picked up the other day...but having trouble with what pattern!!

Can you help? Any ideas as to what I should do.... best idea I will try...

The fabrics remind me so much of the Australian summer...beautiful blue skies... bright yellow daisies and crisp green leaves...

What do you think?

"Sugar Flower" Quilt

I had some 4 1/2" squares left over from a quilt that I made recently, fabrics that came from the Lecien fabric range "Sugar Flower".

So I decided that instead of cutting them up or using them in an applique quilt, I wanted to show case them to their best!!

But I had to add a little appliqued heart...because that's me!!

Using some white homespun as sashing, I framed the squares and then added a beautiful aqua floral border from the same range as the fabrics... looks rather cute, if I say so myself!!

The Comfort Quilt.....finished...

Here it is...my "Comfort Quilt" is finished, and I love it!! Thanks Leanne for stepping out into a different colour way to create this beautiful quilt. Made especially for my room, I added a few extra blue, charcoal, and chocolate colours to compliment my bedroom and I think it has worked well!!

"The Comfort Quilt"

I needed to make a quilt for our bedroom that would go with the blue, the linen and the provincial style that I was planning to create in our bedroom. I was looking through the latest issue of "Vignette" by Leanne Beasley, and I came across this quilt - "The Comfort Quilt". As soon as I saw it, I just knew this was the one I had to make.

So the following Saturday I was down at "Gail's Patchwork", buying my fabrics. This is the stack that I purchased...

Next came all the cutting, which I find I really enjoy doing, there is something very relaxing about it, laying all the strips into columns, they look kind of cool!

Now I've just got to work out in which order I will stitch them together...

Hexagon Quilt

I was inspired by Leanne Beasley's Hexagon Quilt in her second issue of "Vignette In Stitches" magazine, so I thought I would give it a go. There is something very therapeutic about stitching tiny hexagons together, something that I can take with me and stitch whenever; like at work during lunchtime. I have tried to be very disciplined and stitch together at least one full hexagon flower each lunchtime, so far I have made about 30 flowers, and I think they look really pretty. They are fun to stitch!!

Journalling My Quilts....

I have decided that this year, I am going to 'journal' all of the quilts that I make for the year. I am keeping samples of all the fabrics I use and making sure that I take photos of my progress as I make them. It will just remind me down the track how I made them, the fabric ranges that I used, inspiration, etc... I even found scrapbooking papers and embellishments to finish off the 'look' of the page.

A Creative Long Weekend...

Well, the long weekend has been a very productive one...I have finished another block for my "Funky Flowers" class....and I have made more borders for my "Snowflake Medallion" quilt...it is amazing what you can do when you pop in the earplugs of the Ipod and let the music flow...what an inspiration music can give you...to shut yourself away in your sewing room and just create...what a perfect weekend!!

Snowflake Medallion

My 'Christmas holiday' quilt project is underway and is looking good. I purchased all the fabrics late last year and they have been sitting on my sewing table looking at me, waiting until I had holidays...yesterday I spend all day cutting out the fabrics; it has a total of 14 borders and the centre medallion. The 'Snowflake' design in the middle I have been working on for a while; that was easy to carry with me and to do in my spare time.

The fabrics are beautiful blues, pinks, greens, and a raspberry fabric to highlight it. This quilt was designed by the ladies at "Ballarat Patchwork", where I also purchased all the fabrics as well.

I am looking forward to starting the piecing and watching the quilt grow...

A sneak peek....at a "Love Story"....

Over the past few weeks I have been working on a new quilt....and it always amazes me, how as soon as I pull out the fabrics, start working on a design, the love affair with fabric and thread begins....there is nothing better...it is like retreating into a good book....fabric in itself will begin to tell you a story of how it is to look, what colours go with what....if there is to be any other features whether applique or embroidery etc... this quilt started out with the centre and with a little applique work....I can't reveal too much at this stage....shh it's a secret!, it turned into the quilt that I have made. I have used new fresh colours of summer and a rich chocolate box palette and tried a few new things in the design....I have made it in these two colour ways as you can see in the photos just as a hint...just so I can see how one quilt done in two colourways can look so different....I hope it inspires you...

Fresh New Quilt....A Slice of Heaven II

I just needed to quilt..it has been awhile since I created anything...and I felt the need to create! This quilt uses some of my favourite fabrics in a simple square in a square design...couldn't be easier to make and gives a quick beautiful result. This quilt was featured in the Homespun Magazine Vol 9, No 9 Page 79, but in a different colourway. It is a design I created called "A Slice of Heaven", because any work that you do just on a whim is a slice of heaven!!!

Wedding Quilt Completed - "Sweet Like Chocolate"

Wow, what an accomplishment, I have finally finished the wedding quilt that I started some time back for friends of ours that got married in April last year.

Today I made the quilt label and tag and made a bag to store the quilt in when not in use.

Tonight I gave it to our friends who were thrilled with it, these guys are also this week expecting their first baby - she is due tomorrow!! I wanted to make sure she had the quilt before the baby so that on those cold nights of feeding, she would have a beautiful quilt around her to keep herself warm.

This is the ultimate gift - to be able to give someone something that you have made yourself and that you enjoy making and then giving away!

Delightful Fabrics

These are the fabrics that I am using at the moment for a quilt that I am making for some friends as a wedding present.. I love the richness of these fabrics and how well they go together.. The quilt is just squares, a simple design but I think the fabrics will really make this quilt.. I am using a design from Lynelle Slade, called "Perfectly Peppermint".. Should be quick to make, which is what I like!!

The wonderful world of blogging!!

What a wonderful concept, almost like a diary.. I can let everyone know what I am up to in the craft world or for those that are interested.. Today I visited a quilt hanging in Lilydale, there was about 300 quilts on displayed, and with many skill levels, it was refreshing to see the range of talent that exists.. Many were traditional designs, many were just fun.. It was great just to see what people are doing at the moment..
